Gurgaon

Well, I've recently shifted to Gurgaon. Synonymous to the name, the city is a "glorified village". High rises , haze of dust, host of liquor bars, hotels, humongous shopping malls & human beings...looks good on the cover. But take a closer look & there's more!
It surely feels great to spot the head quarters of giants like Nestle , Airtel, Ernst & Young, Yahoo, Microsoft & so on...Thats why it is called the Millenium city. While it gives a rush to ambitious young minds, it upsets the common man in the city.
What does a common man with upper middle class values want out of a city? Decent accomodation, neat & clean neighborhood rather neighbors, law & order control, means of transport, hospitals & ample places to chill & spill.
What does a woman with upper middle class values want out of a city? Decent accomodation to do up a nice house, friendly neighbors for that extra favor, ample means of public transport to secretly shop before their husbands reach, kirana shops within a radius of 100mts to encourage their habit of forgetting to pick up basic stuff while shopping for the month, beauty parlors to keep up the radiance factor alive, day care centers to babysit their cuddly ones, maids are a must, montessori schools to keep the child busy, parks for their children & gym to sweat out calories.
Well, Gurgaon boasts of none. The city is poor on infrastructure with no means of transport to reach minimum distances, no kirana shops to pick up simple stuff as biscuits, cakes etc incase you didnt pick them on your last trip to Big Bazaar, beauty parlors at unaccessible distances, & day care centers that you might spot on your way to the nearest mall 5kms from home. While the rest can be managed, remember BARELY, the blaring & alarming trouble is transport! What was DLF thinking when it was designing such high rises? How does it comfort the common woman? This is India & not every woman is mobile. I feel like shooking them hard & tell them to introduce a spate of autos & lot more rickshaws, probably buses that run within the city to access whats been created for the habitat. Its quite paralysing when you are forced to shop at the super mart located wihtin your complex premises with prices that are not always regulated. Hospitals are atleast 2-3kms away, while the distance is considerable, how do I get there in emergency? Friendly neighbors...eh..you harldy spot the house without locks since couples are working...hello don't you have kids???
I feel the pinch of it since I've a kid, just a year old. I feel challenged, a queer sense I havent felt before that I might get trapped some day screaming for help & none of it around.
DLF, Unitech, Ansal , HUDA..whoever needs to..please listen to our woes..make it a little more mobile for us to love this city, call it our own & share the pride!
